Here is a Double Project:  5th wheel and Camper.......

Here's the story....We get an email.... wants some charge controllers.....

We begin to discuss the system and what it needs to do....Here are some excerpts from the initial design thoughts:

We are going to use them [panels] on our 5th wheel & also on our camper. They will be removable so we can use them on whichever rig we are using at the time. The panels are 52" X 13" we do a lot of camping & need to keep our batteries up. We don't do campgrounds where we go... am wondering if this is an inline controller.....From reading all the info in the manual, this controller is an inline. It doesn't have gauges. I am coping out the manual & all the information from the listings e-mail links. As for a 5th wheel, it is like a camp trailer only it connects to a hitch in the bed of your truck. A regular camp trailer connects to a hitch on the bumper of the truck. We would move the entire system from rig to rig.

OK, they want isolation between the controller and the charging system and decide to install a manual switch.....

As you can see we bought the controller. He [DH] is going to check into the switch, sure don't want to mess up the batteries in the truck. I'll let you know how it turns out, and thanks again for all your help with this.

I copied the manual & the spec sheet last night & put the name of the company in my favorites. Thanks for the extra time involved here. You've been really super. He [DH] is going to build a frame that will hold both panels & the controller will be mounted under the panels. I have also copied all the extra information you have sent, thank you very much for everything.

DH got the frame built but has to wait & see how big the controller is before he can make a small frame for it to mount it on the underside. And yes he thinks a switch would be very wise, so it will have one. We too are also excited about this. Our generator on both rigs are on the outside & in the winter it's pretty cold to get outside & start them when your batteries need charged up. This is going to be great. Will keep you posted.

These panels will be mounted in a frame so they can be put on top of the camper or the 5th wheel. The frame will be made out of aluminum so it will be light. We have never had any little varmints on top of either rig, so hope they won't or can't climb just to eat wires. These will not sit on the ground as we move around to much when we are on the road. It's going to be nice not to have to run the generator every time the batteries need charging. I will keep you informed.

We finally got everything all together.

Camper: The wires are also run down through the vent where the frig is. The picture shows the controller mounted inside the frig compartment on the camper as well. He was going to put the solar panels together in the beginning, but changed his mind. This way each rig has it's own solar panel & it's own controller. We got the second controller on Tuesday & he had it hooked the same day. Both controllers work great. I want to thank you so very much for all your help & input. I'm trying to get him to put a smaller solar panel on our pontoon boat. So you will probably be hearing from me in the near future.

We do a lot of camping as I said & the batteries tend to run down after a while, so we have to get the generator going to recharge the batteries. This is going to be so great. We are going to Silverton Colorado in July to ride the mountains there on quads. We do this every year, so it will be a good test for the solar panels & chargers. In 30 years of camping we have probably only used a campground a hand full of times. 98% of the time we use the campgrounds for dumping the gray & black water & filling up our fresh water tank.

There is not much my husband can't master. He said this was a very easy project from start to finish. The manual I copied out for him was very easily read.

I do have a question for you. Do you also sell solar panels? We have a 28 foot pontoon boat that we are thinking about putting a solar panel on. It's totally self contained. We have a 2000 watt generator that we use for the coffee pot & lights at night when the battery is getting low.

Here is how it all turned out!!!.... Simply fantastic!!!! Way to go...
